It's too early to see what's going to happen with the annual slaughter on our national roads. Figures so far indicate a much lower death rate than previous years. Which is obviously great. I hope it stays that way and more people think before they drink before they drive. We've already heard of two people being caught for going over 200km/h. One lady driving a Toyota RunX got fined R16 grand, the other R15 grand and a third (for going 175km/h) R5 grand. The woman paid R10 grand and made arrangements to pay the balance off. That's a waste of a Christmas bonus if I ever saw one!
Myself obviously had an alcohol filled week before officially taking a break. Sleeping over is a first priority because with friends like mine there is no way out of having another Jacks (Jack Daniels) or that "one for the road". Just strange that no matter how much you drink the night before, you always wake up thirsty the next day! Normally I try go to sleep before I "pass out" 'cause then you don't get much sleep, do you?
Anyway, the guys with the connections organised a band to play at a house party as well as an official function just before Christmas. These guys are known as X-Over and are pretty good for a "social" band. In other words those social functions where everyone needs to bond, gathering around a pub or fire and scream abuse at each other..., oh sorry, that was another band/party.
Seriously though, this three member band makes do without electronic keyboards and with a bass player, drummer and lead guitarist they're doing a good job of keeping a crowd entertained. And for anyone who's interested there's a 2 meg drum solo that you can download (link removed) - unfortunately there's not much too be seen as the video was shot at night with very (close to) no light. And those who wish to contact them can do it here.
Now it's new year celebrations next. Let's hope we all survive this one! And here's to a more positive attitude and vibe for South Africans in this country for 2004! To all the regulars out there (yes, you too Deon), have a marvelous and prosperous year!
For those "staticians" out there, here's an interesting site!
I leave 2003 behind with the following words (especially with the upcoming elections in April) :
Star Parker said - The black community wants to be free. But it doesn't know how to because it's locked into this 40 year old mind set. It demands jobs, but it hates the capitalism that creates the jobs.
Star Parker is a Republican Party activist from Los Angeles. She's made it her jobs to tell the American blacks to stop whining about racism and get off their butts and find work.
