It's official! The Arrive Alive campaign, which is most active over the festive season, has determined that drivers between the ages of 24 and 35 behind the wheel of either a BMW or Mercedes Benz, are the worst traffic offenders of all road users. Not only that, they also cause (or are involved) in most accidents. What happened to our notorious taxi drivers?

Sad story this week about a 15 year old girl (pregnant!) and her boyfriend (21) who walked home after a night of partying at a local club, got attacked by some black men. After raping her they forced her to watch her boyfriend being executed. Initially the police had nothing to go on and appealed for information. One guy appeared in court today - good job but should never have happened in the first place!

And more from my local area (Krugersdorp) is that the acting deputy director of Public Safety not only caused an accident over December, but was also found to be drunk at the time. Now we all know how this works - this is a man with "connections" and after some threats and trying to leave the scene of the accident, got eventually arrested. Strange to think that some people get off with a bribe or two!

Talking of which, four cops went to look for "illegals" on a farm. After establishing that two workers don't belong in the country, they "made a plan" with the farmer who paid them R800. The farmer reported the matter after which they got arrested. Admitting the bribe, a senior police officer instructed the men be released. The following day they were back on duty. On further investigation the Krugersdorp News was told that an internal inquiry is being conducted - ja right!

And with all this it seems our municipal services are going for a "loop". From electricity outages to refuse not being removed to overgrown pavements and sidewalks.

Government is on it's own mission - with a presidential pardon for Allan Boesak upsetting a couple of people. The man who still insists that he did not steal money donated by overseas concerns, is of course elated. After serving one year of his three year sentence (out on parole) the ANC was only too happy to see him. Amidst big aplomb they welcomed him back. Presidential pardons are normally reserved for those admitting their failures and "sins", especially after a court of law put them behind bars. Not Boesak. He not only gets a clean slate for "being innocent", he jumps the queue on the "pardon" list. And if rumors are true that he's being considered for a post in government, it just goes to show - if you haven't been in jail, you don't qualify for a government post!

A bit late for Allan though, the Robben Island Old Boys Club ceased to exist in 1994!
