Today (okay, yesterday) was "car-free" day. Not that anyone noticed. In spite of extensive advertising our government eventually realised that most people cannot and will not rely on public transport.

I have a main road a couple of blocks from where I stay. Walking up there is good exercise but where to from there? Stick a finger in the air and wait for a taxi to pick me up. From there I'll probably go to the nearest taxi rank where I'll have to catch another taxi to Jo'burg from where I'll probably have to catch another taxi to the next rank which might drop me off about three blocks from work.

This means I'll have to be up at five, skip gym and head for the casino instead. Getting into any of our taxis is a gamble with your life and sanity. Busses all "bus" into Jo'burg and are rarely on time. From Jo'burg I'll have no alternative but to catch a taxi. Trains are normally late and don't go even close to where I head every work morning. And you don't want to pitch at work bleeding from stab wounds received from the numerous criminals frequenting trains, looking for easy targets. Well, if you're not easy you're dead - not much choice there!

And government responded with closure of certain inner city roads to all transport except for public transport. Nice one guys.

Current big news is that of our judiciary. Down in the fairest Cape a black judge racially "abused" a white attorney. After much deliberation and meetings with the Chief Justice, it was decided that no action will be taken against the judge. Of course the Chief Justice is also a black man and of course our legal fraternity across the country is not happy at all.

How did this all happen? Who knows. Senior council lodged a complaint with the Cape Bar after being called "a piece of white sh*t who should go back to Holland" by Judge John Hlope, but this is now viewed as not a complaint. Come on, our own Chief Justice cannot rule on a cut and dry case like this? Something is very wrong here and hopefully we haven't heard the last of this.

Tony Leon from the DA got told off by an ANC supporter in the traffic the other morning. He of DA fame (or is that the "moan and b*tch brigade) decided to talk to motorists at an intersection where a traffic light has been out of order for a week, telling them that the DA should be voted in so they (the DA) can sort out all the infrastructure problems of Johannesburg. This chap (with an ANC t-shirt on) calmly reminded him that that specific area was under DA control. Good one!

And lastly, the Blue Bulls are in the final show-off this weekend. The Cheetahs are not to be under-estimated so it will be a tough game. Of course my blood is blue!
