Fuel - normal petrol up 35% this year alone with diesel on 49%. More and more people are finally realising the value of Sasol. Oil from coal, a process that should be as cost-effective as it'll ever be after years of operation. But we don't see the benefit of this. The shareholders are smiling of course, all the way from the bank to the 700 odd Porches that's been sold in this country last year. Don't forget of course that government is the single biggest shareholder with Sasol now allocating some additional shares to the wealthy "previously disadvantaged" (my most favourite two words ever invented!). Of course government is not interested in our woes. Between Trevor and Tito they keep on increasing the interest rate "in the fight against inflation".
Again, it doesn't make much sense to me. It's becoming more expensive to produce food, electricity is bound to go up by a huge margin (Cape Town already increased their electricity by 20%), fuel cost keep rising but the poor sucker in the street must take the brunt. Is it their fault? People live on credit because there's no money. Basic food stuff is bought on credit, school fees are paid on credit, car and house maintenance has become so expensive that the poor credit card must just handle it with electricity and service delivery taking a big bite out of disposable income. Of course salaries don't go up because the employer is having the same issues surviving in the current climate. And predictions are that this will carry on until 2010! South Africa is importing more than it exports mainly (in my humble opinion) because of poor and expensive productivity / labour. Then of course there's the ANC government fat cats who cannot live without the luxuries afforded by the South African taxpayer. And when the proverbial hits the fan (when there's power), government sits back and let the UN, NGOs and the average South African take care of the mess. Over a 100 thousand foreigners have been driven out of their homes. Some 30 thousand have already left the country. Life in Zimbabwe must surely be better than loosing it in South Africa. The audacity of government to distribute pamphlets at our border posts inviting these people to stay is beyond me. They've just proven that they don't care a damn by not providing protection and then leaving them stranded without a home or food. Big TV campaigns are flighted on the SABC channels promoting one-ness with Africa and it's people - Africa for the black, not just South Africans. Run, if you still have the means just run. Before you do though, or maybe when you're safe on the other side have a look at this sent by a regular - rogue democracy
