Who said South Africa is a boring place? We've never had such an exciting time in our lifes. Only problem is, it's not the excitement we like.. The ANC Youth League has always been outspoken about anything and everything. I really thought that their new president (at least he can spell, or knows how to use a spell-checker) had a bit more savvy. At least I gave him more credit than he deserved. Let's not forget that this is the same organisation that got Zuma the ANC presidency and these are the same guys that will make sure he becomes the next South African president, if he toes the line that is. Julius Malema (that's the one) told a packed ANC Youth League audience that the organisation will be "prepared to die for Zuma. We are prepared to take up arms and kill for Zuma". The little idiot now says that that is not what he meant. Zuma himself criticised the remark but the ANC itself (or at least their spokesperson) responded by saying that people do not understand where this remark came from and that it should not be taken literally as that is not what was really said. The ANCYL does not want Zuma to have to go to court. They want the case scrapped. It is in light of this pending corruption case that harsh words are spoken. And of course, the nation is in an uproar. Quite rightly so. We cannot have anyone blatently threatening our legal system like that. Nor the lifes of the people involved in the proceedings. Zuma himself is under fire now. How could he dare question such a patriotric remark? And the league's Secretary-General Vuyiswa Tulelo responded by saying that just as they removed Mbeki, so they will remove Zuma if he does not live up to their expectations. Two distinct threats in a matter of a week. "What we said is that we support the president of the ANC and we are going to do everything in our power to ensure that the president gets a free and fair trial" Malema says this week. I suppose "everything in our power" means not killing those who dare prosecute Zuma, but merely intimidate them? The ANCYL has always been a very militant organisation. Young and reckless with their views and actions. But this is not the first time that someone in the ANC uttered the word "kill" in public. Zumas' favourite song involves getting his machine gun, and the SACP has the "one bullet one farmer" song, which also does not really mean what it says? We know that most of the time black people (in general) mean what they say. They're not into talking in riddles, it's not in their culture. If they say "hi-jack" you can rest assure there's a gun pointing at you and you do exactly what they say. The weather has turned nasty on the Natal coast. Here are some photos of the area where 12 people already died and a complete petshop washed out to sea - (click on links) Photo 1 (Uvongo) Photo 2 (Port Shepstone) Photo 3 (Margate) Photo 4 (Margate) Thanks Sammy & Pete for the photos.
