Who said South Africa is boring? I reckon no-one in his / her right mind has uttered the word "boring" when it comes to South African politics for a long time.
A week in the history of South Africa is a long time. Especially at the speed things are happening within the ANC. The once mighty, all-conquering ANC does not know which way to turn anymore. Between Lekota and ex-labour union hotshot Shilowa a new party is coming into being. And it's about time.
I pondered the fact some time ago about the possibilities of another party taking over the reigns, but the DA will always be the DA. Strong in their beliefs and fundamentals, but still primarily white supported with too little black support. Now we're seeing a proper opposition being born out of frustration and dissent for what the ANC has become.
Of course the ANC is "not worried". Sending delegates to all their provincial offices at this time has never happened in the past, but they're not worried. Thousands of ANC card carrying members are abandoning ship and joining Lekota in his new party. The man is on a mission and not interested in what the ANC has to say. He has traveled extensively, holding meetings with local folk and explaining his situation and reasons for jumping ship.
But the "not worried" ANC has already tried roping Nelson Mandela in with a dire request for help in their latest campaign with the November election looming. Mandela has had enough. Personally I think the man is hurting. Not for his country or his people, but for his party.
And of course the firing of Mbeki started it all. Not because of, but the way it was done. The judge in the Zuma corruption case based part of his decision on unproven allegations against Mbeki, which Mbeki wants to fight. What will happen? We're waiting..
Mbeki is currently fighting a lost cause with Mugabe in Zimbabwe. Mad Bob said how many times before that he was, is and always will be the ruler of Zimbabwe. And he his sticking to his guns. With a failed get together this past week the local "king" claimed that Africa will sort out Africas' problems. Sure. When?

Another popular talking point here involves one traitor who was quite happy to wear the Springbok jersey during our world cup campaign. He now claims he wanted to vomit on the jersey and that Springbok rugby is ruled by dutchmen. Yes, Luke Watson should never be allowed to play for the national team ever again.
There's a story behind this - his father (Cheeky) was a staunch ANC supporter during the apartheid years. When Jake White elected the world cup winning team, Luke was left out and not even considered due to his bad seasonal performance. Cheeky jumped in and demanded his son is included as he probably reasoned that the ANC owed that to him. Jake didn't like it, the rugby supporters didn't like it but word from the top was that he must go with. He's not a great player compared to those who really deserve to play for their country. And that includes quite a couple of black players.
Now with the seasonal talk of dumping the Springbok emblem, Luke was quick to jump on the bandwagon. Fathers' influence? Who knows. All I know is that we don't need that sort of talk in this country where after 17 years we're still trying to reconcile and come to grips with our new democracy.
Luke Watson should hang up his boots and take up farming, in some remote Kwa-Zulu Natal farm where he'll be far removed from from civilisation. If banned from playing rugby in this country, no international team will even look at him. Nice one buddy..
