So, no arms deal investigation.., our new temporary President declared. Did we really expect anything more?
The ANC got a smack from the courts the other day. Thye failed to do the necessary paperwork and payments in order to register 12 of their candidates for the by-elections in the Western Cape, and promptly ran to the courts when the Independant Electoral Commission told them that they cannot participate. Of course they're not happy. Voting carried on today with some interference from ANC members. Intimidation, the one word describing the ANC membership mentality the same way that corruption in South Africa is spelt ANC.
More police recruits are being promised. A new camera system has been unveiled to curb crime in the Johannesburg city center, and still eight children are being sexually molested every day in South Africa. Now with recruits like these, how are we going to win this war?

Thanks Glen for these photos. Can anyone tell me if these guys actually have any common sense? What criteria do the SAPS use during their selection? What pass rate is required for these guys to be let loose on the general public? Are these the people that's being recruited / trained to protect visitors from across the globe during 2010?
That's another story altogether. Doesn't matter where in the world you come from, if you have a ticket to a match you automatically qualify for a visa. Fifa generously donated a couple of million Rands to help the local organisers getting things done in time, due to the current economic downturn worldwide. Let's hope they make every cent count.
Mugabe is still under the protection of most African countries. This despite a worldwide condemnation in light of the cholera epidemic there. Of course the Limpopo river (natural border between Zimbabwe and South Africa) is already a no-go. Problem is that this major river flows all the way through Mozambique into the Indian Ocean, but that's of no concern to those who only enjoy bottled water and drive in fancy cars. Some estimated 12 000 people already contracted the disease with close on 700 deaths. Zimbabweans are streaming across the border at Messina (Musina) in the hope of medical attention. The new health minister claims we don't have enough doctors to help out, but nothing is being done by Mugabe. Cholera has been detected in the Vaal river with effluent leaking into it for some time now. Nothing was being done there either. It took an action group suing government before steps were taken against the offenders. Remember a couple of months ago I mentioned the next crisis in this country would be fresh water supply? It's upon us already. I suppose when you're on a downhill you'll gather speed if things aren't kept in check.
Ja, the top notch really care about the people. Wonder how the Mugabe faithful feel these days about their country?
